When I was a kid in the 1950's, my dad had some hidden war memoribilia from WWII that I found in the basement. It was a variety of things, but among them was a photograph of the corpse of Benito Mussolini.
In the picture, Mussolini is lying dead on the floor and a woman is standing on his face with the heels of her high heeled shoes in his eye sockets. All around the woman people are smiling and laughing, a man gallantly extends his hand to her to help her balance on Mussolini's face. The woman has a big smile on her face too.
I was young, maybe 8 or 9, and this confused the hell out of me. The juxtaposition of death, mutilating a dead body and happy, smiling people was just too disconcerting.
I'm not confused anymore. I get it now. I also understand the French Revolution and Marie Antionette's unhappy end. I understand the Russian Revolution and why the Tsar's family were horribly murdered.
Most people never want anything to do with that kind of horrible mob mentality. But, there comes a time, when the insane madness of rulers intoxicated with their own power and uncaring about the devastation they cause, when otherwise normal people snap.
And I wonder, when people in this country truly realize what has been done in our name and what now is being done to us, will we snap too?
When Americans finally, truly realize that their trusted leaders could care less about the devastation they inflict on others, and worse, those leaders believe they are above us all and entitled to do whatever they want - which, by the way, was the ultimate message of Cheney's hunting "accident" - he didn't need to tell anyone, he didn't need to do a damn thing he didn't want to do. He doesn't have to. If you don't like it, go f**k yourself - when the realization of this betrayal of trust sinks in, when the stark realization of just how stupid we were to trust such blatant liars, what will happen?
When we reach this tipping point - and I don't yet know what it will be; passing some milestone number of dead troops in Iraq, or another terrorist attack here, followed by more lies and lame excuses, or an even more blatant stripping of our rights than we have yet seen? Will it be another manufactured war that we will be told we must sacrifice our chidren for, while the children of the powerful stay rich, privleged and protected? Will it be another American Depression here at home while Bush & Co. become even more wealthy and removed? Or will it be the selling of our ports to Dubya's Arab royal friends?
Or, more likely, will it be some seemingly innocuous thing - like the Mohammad cartoons - that pushes us irretreivably over the line?
I'm not diminishing the affront the Mohammad cartoons represented. But, like us, the Muslim world has been swallowing one gross indignity after another ever since we made up lies to invade Iraq and murder over 100,000 Iraqis. Abu Grahib alone should have done it, but didn't. Moving our military command into Saddam's palaces and taking over his rape rooms and prisons should have done it, but didn't. Torturing innocent people to death and then handing their greiving families money as compensation should have done it, but didn't.
Suddenly a Danish cartoon is too much to bear and they snapped. The reaction is vastly disproportionate to the cause, unless seen as a part of a larger picture. Then, what seems like an irrational over-reaction becomes understandable as the cry of grief and rage tearing out of a wounded soul after one injury too many is inflcted.
So, what will be our tipping point? Whatever it is, when Americans reach that point and realize that all the precautions and checks and balances built into our system are useless, in fact, have been canceled while we slept, what then? Will we descend into madness and take revenge on the depraved, narcissitic authors of our destruction?
As for Neil Cavuto, he is just a lackey, but, you know, evil can't spread without those willing lackeys. Hitler could have killed only so many Jews by himself, gotta have willing henchmen. That's Neil. Just as Goebbels could have proudly discussed the Germanic efficency of Nazi extermination plans, Neil will try and spread sunshine on still more death and destruction. And, make no mistake, he, and the rest of the Bush henchmen, are so smug, so cavilier, so completely removed from the horrors their actions have caused and so sure of their inherent right to be so that they will be genuinely surprised when the mob turns on them.
Bush and Cheney’s illegal war for oil in Iraq continues only because of the jingoistic flag-waving of the corporate controlled media like the Washington Post or the Baltimore Sun.

The neocons based their illegal war for oil in Iraq in part on the official propaganda of 9/11. The really cool progressives do not accept the corporate controlled media propaganda of 19 hijackers and jet airplanes. There are many really cool progressive Web sites that show it was squib charges and holograms used on 9/11.
As long as the really cool progressives keep up with their really cool postings to let the world know the truth, I would have to assume that they will in fact stop the illegal war in Iraq, have Rummy and Bush and Cheney arrested as war criminals, force Halliburton to give all of their illegal war profits to the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal fund, and overturn the marijuana laws in the U.S.
